Visura Expands TEE Probe Compatibility to Include Additional Adult TEE Probes

TEECAD System now compatible for use with GE HealthCare and Siemens Healthineers TEE adult probes.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (June 22, 2023) —Visura Technologies, Inc., a privately-held medical device company dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art visualization solutions to improve the safety and success of transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) probe intubations, announced today it has expanded its probe compatibility to include GE HealthCare and Siemens Healthineers TEE adult probes. This probe expansion will allow the TEECAD system to be used in additional heart centers across the United States.

“The expansion of the TEECAD System for use with GE probes will allow us to evaluate the product here at HCA Florida West Marion,” said Dr. Celso Acevedo, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist at HCA Florida. “We look forward to experiencing the TEECAD system and seeing it in use soon.”

Clinical data continues to support the need for sighted-TEE intubation to reduce TEE-related procedure complications and increase first pass intubation success. A recent Letter to the Editor in the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia cited a study that demonstrated a 50% reduction in oropharyngeal injury and a 10% increase in first-attempt insertion success when procedures were guided by real-time visualization compared to blind intubation.[1] Visura’s TEECAD System is the world’s first disposable camera designed specifically for real-time visualization during TEE intubation. Currently compatible with Philips adult TEE probes, the expansion to include Siemens, and GE, will allow the TEECAD System to better serve the majority of the $542M US TEE market.[2]

The TEECAD System seamlessly connects to TEE probes to provide physicians with images of the esophagus and surrounding structures during intubation for more efficient and effective probe placement. There are an estimated 650,000 TEE procedures performed annually in the U.S. with TEE procedures growing at an annual rate of 7%. Use of the TEECAD System for efficient and accurate probe placement supports first-pass intubation success and has the potential to reduce costly TEE-related complications.

“Compatibility with additional probes is extremely important in serving more patients and physicians and in addressing the overall market need for innovation,” Christine Horton, CEO of Visura Technologies. “As published data has shown, physicians performing TEE have adapted other technologies and techniques in order to find a solution for blind TEE intubation. Visura now offers a cost-effective and easy-to-use solution designed specifically for the task. The true definition of medical device innovation.”
